Originally from Baltimore, MD, Joel earned his B.A. in History with a concentration in American History from Brown University in 2009. After college, he taught high school History in Atlanta, GA while also coaching football and lacrosse, before moving to New York in 2010. Across six years at Excellence Boys Charter School and Leadership Prep Brownsville, Joel taught Math, History and English, as well as serving as a Dean of Students and then as a Dean of Curriculum and Instruction. While teaching at Excellence Boys, Joel earned his M.A. in Education from Hunter College in 2012. Joel enjoys playing and watching all types of sports-but especially soccer-as well as writing and cooking. He is excited to join the Brownsville family, and to work with staff and families to help our students open doors to incredible and fulfilling futures.
Director of Operations
Originally from Buffalo, NY, Michael studied History at Duke University and began his career as an Admissions Officer at Duke’s Undergraduate Admissions Office. He then spent two years working as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in Dallas, followed by year abroad in Rome, Italy as a business innovation consultant with the United Nations World Food Program. At WFP, he developed a strategic framework for the organization’s footprint and streamlined its budgeting process. Michael is excited to be returning to education and joining the BVC family.
