Brownsville Collegiate Charter School (BVC) opened in August 2009 to 108 students in grades 5 and 6. It grew one grade per year and now serves 310 students through grade 8. Following 8th grade, Brownsville Collegiate students will attend Uncommon Collegiate Charter High School to continue their preparation for college.
At Brownsville Collegiate, our mission is to prepare students to enter, succeed in and graduate from college. We believe that an outstanding education, based on strong mastery of academic skills and critical thinking, prepares young people to build positive futures for themselves and emerge as competent and effective community leaders. A culture of academic excellence-in which all children are expected to read on or above grade level, in which all children are expected to master one year of high school algebra by the end of grade 8, and in which all children are expected to embody our school’s values of belief, engagement, appreciation, resilience and sankofa - is key to our scholars’ development. Brownsville Collegiate is dedicated to providing the outstanding education necessary to develop our future leaders.
